چکیده

The LOPES-30 experiment, located at the site of the air shower experiment KASCADEGrande at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Germany, is an array of 30 dipole antennas set-up to investigate the pulsed radio emission from cosmic ray air showers in the Earth’s atmosphere. After one year of measurements of the East-West polarization by all 30 antennas, recently, the LOPES-30 set-up was reconfigured to perform dual-polarization measurements. Half of the antennas have been configured for measurements of the North-South polarization direction. By measuring at the same time both, the E-W and N-S polarization components of the radio emission, the geosynchrotron effect as the dominant emission mechanism in air showers can be verified. The status of the measurements, including the absolute calibration procedure of the antennas as well as a preliminary analysis of dual-polarized event examples are reported.

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Investigations of the lateral extension of radio emission in air showers by LOPES30 measurements

The antenna field of LOPES uses inverted V-shaped dipole antennas to measure radio signals originating from extensive air showers (EAS). The LOPES antennas are measuring in coincidence with the air shower experiment KASCADE-Grande. For roughly one year data in the frequency range from 40–80 MHz were taken, having 30 linearly polarized antennas oriented to East-West. In this data set the East-We...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Shower evolution and radio emission of air showers in thunderstorm electric fields

The radio emission from cosmic ray air showers consists in large part of geosynchrotron radiation. Since the radiation mechanism is based on particle acceleration, atmospheric electric fields may play an important role. LOPES results show that electric fields under fair weather conditions do not alter the radio emission considerably, but during thunderstorms strongly amplified pulses are measur...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Trigger Strategy for Radio Detection of Atmospheric Air Showers with LOPES

In the framework of LOPES (LOFAR PrototypE Station), a Self-Triggered Array of Radio detectors (STAR) is developed. The challenge of LOPES is to provide an independent self-trigger on radio emission of extensive air showers with primary energies above 5 · 10 eV. Measurements are done with an external trigger and self-trigger in radio loud and quiet areas. Based on these data the self-trigger is...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Radio Detection of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays

The radio technique for the detection of cosmic particles has seen a major revival in recent years. New and planned experiments in the lab and the field, such as GLUE, Anita, LUNASKA, Codalema, LOPES as well as sophisticated Monte Carlo experiments have produced a wealth of new information and I review here briefly some of the main results with the main focus on air showers. Radio emission of u...

Simulations of Radio Emission from Cosmic Ray Air Showers

Radio emission from cosmic ray air showers has the potential to become an additional, cost-effective observing technique for cosmic ray research, being largely complementary to the well-established particle detector and air fluorescence techniques. We present Monte Carlo simulatios of radio emission from extensive air showers in the scheme of coherent geosynchrotron radiation from electron-posi...
